Steelers' Mandatory Minicamp Begins; Faneca Wants Out

Three days of required practice kicked off on the South Side on Friday, as the Pittsburgh Steelers' mandatory minicamp got under way.

It's the first time that No. 1 draft pick Lawrence Timmons and the rest of the Steelers' draft choices will be on the field together.

Also participating will be the team's newest running back, Kevan Barlow, a former Peabody High School and University of Pittsburgh star. He signed a one-year contract as a free agent on Thursday.

All-Pro left guard Alan Faneca, who did not attend a voluntary minicamp last month, showed up on Friday and practiced with the team but was outspoken about Steelers management.

"This will be my last year as a Pittsburgh Steeler," he said.

Survey: Should The Steelers Trade Faneca?

Faneca said he is not happy with his contract, which has one year remaining, and wants to be traded. He said the only reason he reported to camp on Friday was because it is mandatory.

According to Faneca, the team made a new contract offer, but he said he does not consider it legitimate. He said he believes the only reason the team made the offer was so they would be able to say that they did.

"What are the guys in the room to think?" Faneca said. "If they can do it to me and everybody else and let Joey (Porter) go and do things like that, what does that say to the rest of the guys?"

The team held two practices on Friday. There will be two more on Saturday and one on Sunday.
