Sens Attempt To Extend Series' Lead In Pittsburgh

(Sports Network) - The Ottawa Senators will try to take a commanding 3-1 series' lead in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinals tonight, when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins for Game 4 at Mellon Arena.

After the clubs split the first two tilts in Ottawa, the Senators earned a victory in Sunday's Game 3 at the Igloo.

Daniel Alfredsson scored a pair of goals in Ottawa's 4-2 win on Sunday. Alfredsson, the Senators captain, is leading his club with three goals and five points in this series.

Dean McAmmond added a goal and an assist and Mike Comrie also lit the lamp for the Senators, who rebounded nicely after dropping a 4-3 decision in Game 2 on Saturday.

Ray Emery stopped 17 shots for the win and is 2-1 in this set despite giving up nine goals on 66 shots for a paltry .864 save percentage.

Senators forward Patrick Eaves was injured in Sunday's contest as he suffered a concussion after a hit by Pittsburgh's Colby Armstrong. Eaves, who recorded 32 points (14g, 18a) during the regular season, is expected to miss this evening's contest.

Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist and Gary Roberts also lit the lamp for the Penguins.

The 19-year-old Crosby, this year's Art Ross Trophy winner, has five points (3 goals, 2 assists) in the first three postseason contests of his career.

Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 21-of-25 shots, as he continued to struggle in his first playoff series. The 22-year-old netminder has yielded 13 goals on 98 shots in this set and has a 4.64 goals against average and a .867 save percentage.

Sunday's contest was the first home playoff game for Pittsburgh since May 19, 2001 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals. The Penguins last postseason win in the Steel City came earlier in that year's playoffs, as they defeated Buffalo in Game 6 of the conference semis on May 8.

The Penguins were 26-10-5 as the host club during the regular season and Ottawa was a solid 23-12-6 as the visiting team.

Game 5 of this series is set for Thursday evening in Ottawa.
