Colorado has some of the best Mexican food in the Southwest, but there are also plenty of options for those who have an appetite for something different.

Colorado Dinner Train in Canon City takes passengers through the beautiful Royal Gorge while enjoying lunch or dinner. Guests can also enjoy a murder mystery or wine tasting onboard as well. Entrees span prime rib, seafood and wild game. Reservations are required.

El Chapultepec in Denver is the city’s oldest jazz club. It offers nightly live music in a friendly atmosphere. It's said that Frank Sinatra played there years ago, but today it's Denver's best local jazz music spot. The kitchen offers typical Mexican food at a decent price. However, there is a one-drink minimum per live set.

The Fort in Morrison is a replica of Colorado’s first fur trading post and specializes in buffalo, beer, elk, seafood and vegetarian entrees. The award-winning restaurant has been in several magazines. It is one of the nation’s most recognizable restaurants and is said to sell more buffalo steaks than any other restaurant in the country.

The Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant in Denver is famous for its margaritas. The margarita practically defines the Rio and since too much of a good thing is never good, the restaurant limits guests to three. This is a place for celebration even if it’s just to celebrate the end of a long work week. All of the food here is made fresh, from scratch every day. Tacos, fajitas, burritos, tostadas, quesadillas, enchiladas and chile rellenos are just a few of the favorite dishes at the Rio.

The Orchid Pavilion in Boulder brings elegance to Chinese food. The master chef and owner of personally selects the freshest seafood daily. They take traditional Chinese dishes and enhance them to perfection. Along with the traditional sweet and sour pork there is a champagne beef dish that offers slices of filet mignon in a brown sauce. Carry out is also available.
