Carter Could Be Jeannette's First Black MayorDemocrat Wins Primary NominationPOSTED: 5:48 pm EDT May 20, 2009 JEANNETTE, Pa. -- Democrats nominated the man who will likely become Jeannette's first African-American mayor in Tuesday night's primary.Bob Carter spent eight years as a councilman before deciding to make a run for mayor."I feel great inside. I feel happy for the whole city because we have championship sports, and now we can have a championship administration that can show people that the city of Jeannette is a proud place to live," Carter said.Since there are no candidates running on the Republican ticket, he's expected to have an easy win in the general election in November.Carter said his focus will be improving safety in the city.
