GREENSBURG, Pa. -- Races for judge and district attorney were garnering most of the attention in Tuesday's primary in Westmoreland County.

Westmoreland DA, Judge Races Grab Attention In PrimaryIncumbent John Peck, a New Kensington Democrat, won a fifth term as district attorney. He had 60 percent of the vote at 11 p.m., compared to 40 percent for Greensburg attorney Jim Antoniono.
Peck was the losing prosecutor in
a high-profile perjury case against former Republican state Sen. Bob Regola. That loss gave his challenger a talking point in the campaign, but Peck recently made headlines with
efforts to curb gun violence in Monessen.
Eight judicial candidates were vying for two open seats on the common pleas bench.
Sheriff Chris Scherer won a nomination on both the Republican and Democratic tickets, while Greensburg attorneys Meagan Bilik DeFazio (Democratic) and Michele Bononi (Republican) won the other two nominations.
County voters will elect two new judges in the election this fall.
