An Aspinwall family is refusing to remove a John McCain campaign from their apartment porch despite saying they have received threats of eviction.

The traditional-sized lawn sign is not visible unless you're standing close to the porch, WTAE Channel 4's Shannon Perrine reported.

Theresa Shook claimed her landlord told her to take the sign down.

"He did threaten me, though. He said, 'I will not be renewing your lease,'" she said. "I'm appalled."

Reached by WTAE Channel 4 Action News, the landlord said he asked Shook to move the sign. He wouldn't say anything else about the matter.

Shook and her husband, George, said they're not budging.

"I have no intention of taking the sign down, and if he wants to evict us, then we may have to go to court," George Shook said.

Theresa Shook was mystified by the conversation, saying her landlord told her he is a McCain supporter, but she claimed it's not about which side you're on.

"If there was a neighbor with an Obama sign and somebody was telling them to take it down, I would defend their right to have that, just like I hope people defend my right to have my sign up," Theresa Shook said.

Even though they're renters, the Shooks said they have no plans to take the sign down.

"If I have to go to jail, that sign's staying. Even if I get evicted," Theresa Shook said.

Theresa Shook said she had several campaign signs on her porch here last November and nothing at all was said to her then.
