Palin, the governor of Alaska, was scheduled to speak at a private fundraiser at 5 p.m. at the Westin Convention Center hotel downtown.

A basic ticket costs $1,000 and a picture with Palin will go for $10,000. The Republican Party expects to raise almost $500,000.

Along with supporters, Palin was greeted by hundreds Obama supporters as well as protesters.

Two protests -- one environmental and another by a women's antiwar group -- were held outside the hotel on Penn Avenue during Palin's appearance.

"I've never seen a protest like this, with so much enthusiasm, for the other candidate. You would think Senator Obama and Senator Biden were inside right now. But that's not the case. So it shows that there's a lot of anti-sentiment toward Sarah Palin and John McCain," said Obama supporter Jamaal Craig.

Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama is also returning Friday to Pennsylvania, a key battleground state in the election.

He will be in Philadelphia for private fundraisers at a Sheraton hotel and Comcast executive David Cohen's home.

On Saturday, Palin and Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain have a morning rally scheduled at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, while Obama has four campaign stops planned in Philadelphia throughout the day.

Obama's running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, will be in Scranton for a rally Sunday with former President Bill Clinton and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.
