Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton got an unexpected endorsement over the weekend as she and her husband campaigned across the state.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review endorsed Clinton over Sen. Barack Obama in Tuesday's Pennsylvania primary, saying she is a "smart choice" and brushing off the "rock star" appeal of her opponent, who the newspaper said has a lack of experience.

The endorsement is an especially big surprise since the paper is owned by billionaire Richard Scaife, a longtime foe who funded many investigations that led to the impeachment of Clinton's husband, former President Bill Clinton.

The Clinton campaign acknowledged the Trib's endorsement and said it encouraged supporters to vote on Tuesday.

Bill Clinton campaigned for his wife in Millvale on Sunday morning, speaking to a crowd of about 300 at Mr. Small's Theatre.

The former president was brief -- speaking for less than 15 minutes.

He spoke of Sen. Clinton's experience and focused on her health care plan along with her economic vision. He also continued to focus on an elitist theme when referring to Obama and told the crowd his wife will not quit the race.

"If you hear somebody say, 'You ought to quit,' it's because they're afraid you won't," said Clinton. "And you don't want a president who's a quitter. You want a president who can take the heat and keep fighting for you, and now you know, beyond a question of a doubt, she can and she will."

Following the rally in Millvale, the former president headed to the eastern part of the state for three more scheduled campaign stops.
