The Allegheny County Democratic Party has endorsed a candidate in the race for the city council seat held by Twanda Carlisle.

Ricky Burgess won the endorsement with 39 votes after a special election Saturday. His nomination replaces Rachel Cooper who initially won the nomination, but was removed from the ballot for failing to file financial disclosure forms.

Leah Kirkland garnered 32 votes and incumbent Twanda Carlisle got 21.

Burgess will now have the backing of the Democratic Party in the May 15 primary.
