The new facilities funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Henry L. Hillman Foundation will be named the Gates Center for Computer Science and the Hillman Center for Future Generation Technologies.

"The link between Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon has always been very long and the list of distinguished alumni and professors who have been a key part of Microsoft's success is also long," said Gates.

The new centers will have 217,000 square-feet of space and were built to be energy efficient and environmentally sensitive.
