Race Track To Be Built Near Airport

Brant Eyes 2002 For Opening

PITTSSBURGH, Updated 11:04 p.m. EST March 7, 2000 -- Last April, a proposition was made for an indoor raceway near Pittsburgh.

Eleven months later, definite plans are being set for the Brant Pittsburgh Auto Complex, reports WTAE's Andrew Stockey.

It is hoped that it will only take 18 months to build the facility with the ground breaking to occur in July.

The $300 million project will accommodate six times the capacity of Three Rivers Stadium, stretching out over two million square feet.

While it is being built with auto racing in mind, concerts and conventions will also be held in a facility which is projected to bring in $200 million into the local economy.

The Moon Township complex will be built near the airport.
