The unity rally, which was originally supposed to show support for Israel, was supposed to be one of many across the country, but most rallies were canceled in other cities.

Jewish leaders in Pittsburgh decided to rally for unity instead of the Israeli support.

More than 5,000 people attended the rally in the field behind the Jewish Educational Institute, including Stuart Hoffman and his wife. They were inside one of the World Trade Center towers at the time of the terrorist attacks.

WAR ON TERRORISM

"I think we will all join together and hope for good and peace with everyone," said Ruth Fargetstein of Squirrel Hill.

People attended the rally to hear comments from Islamic religious leaders.

"The terrorism, or whatever you call it -- the tragedy, is against Islam, against the teachings of God, against the taechings of the prophet Mohammed," said Farooq Hussani of the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh.

People in attendance gave cash donations for victims of the terror attacks. Children also created hand-made cards to send to relief workers in New York City.
