Team 4: Equine Slaughter Story Update

House Votes To Ban Double-Decker Trailers

UPDATED: 7:14 p.m. EDT May 8, 2001

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives voted unanimously Tuesday to ban double-decker trailers that are made to transport cows.

Animal rights groups say that the trailers, which also are used to transport horses, are inhumane because the horses are easily injured in them.

Two weeks ago, Team 4 investigator Paul Van Osdol reported that Pennsylvania sends thousands of horses a year off to slaughter.

The bill banning the double-decker trailers now goes to the Senate.
