Bigsmart.com Hit With Lawsuit
Texas DA Alleges Company Committed Deceptive Acts
Updated 7:09 p.m. EDT September 23, 2000 -- Bigsmart.com is in big trouble, WTAE-TV's Jim Parsons reports. Texas Attorney General John Cornyn filed a lawsuit against the Arizona-based company on Thursday, accusing it of committing "false, deceptive and misleading acts" and of operating an illegal "pyramid promotional scheme."
Parsons also reports that Ed Lamont, who was the head of the local Bigsmart.com operation, has been fired and that his two Pittsburgh offices have been closed. These latest developments come two months after Parsons reported that many western Pennsylvanians lost hundreds of dollars with the online company. Pennsylvania Attorney General Mike Fisher's office did not comment Friday when asked about its Bigsmart.com investigation. Bigsmart.com is the focus of a Sept. 18 Forbes magazine article entitled 'Con.com.' Previous Stories:
