Penguins Sign D Eaton

POSTED: 4:16 pm EDT July 1, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Penguins signed defenseman Mark Eaton to a two-year contract on Tuesday.

Eaton was limited to 36 games last season due to a knee injury suffered just prior to Christmas. He registered three assists and a plus-six rating and was credited with 89 blocked shots.

Since coming over from Nashville two seasons ago, Eaton has only picked up six assists in 71 games with Pittsburgh.

The 31-year-old native of Delaware and undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame has scored 16 times and registered 53 points over 384 games in eight NHL seasons with the Flyers, Predators and Penguins.
