PITTSBURGH -- Some fans who paid a lot of money to get tickets to Saturday's Stanley Cup finals game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings were informed that their tickets were counterfeit and were not allowed to enter Mellon Arena.WTAE Channel 4 Action News' Tara Edwards reported that dozens of fans were sold the counterfeit tickets online and at the arena."We bought four tickets, and the man said he would meet us out front. He told us he was going to be late. We ran into several people who said the same thing," said Jeff Lively.
Lively said he was part of a group of four who paid $1,900 for the tickets on the Internet.Another foreign couple said they purchased their tickets from a counterfeit scalper. The tickets look real, but one giveaway is that the tickets say "Melon Arena" instead of "Mellon Arena."Police said El Rasheen Dozier, 36, of Cleveland, has been charged with forgery. Clifton McIntosh, 49, of Pittsburgh, and Alfonzo Clark, 36, of the Bronx, N.Y., have been charged with forgery and theft by deception. The Red Wings beat the Pens Saturday night, stretching their Stanley Cup finals lead to 3-1.
