Oscars Producer Says Sorry For Whoopi Snub
Academy Awards Montage Failed To Include 4-Time Host
POSTED: 4:58 pm EST February 27,
2008
The producer of the Oscars has apologized to Whoopi Goldberg for not including her in a montage of past hosts of the Academy Awards at Sunday night's ceremony.Gil Cates told People online that the omission of Goldberg in the clip was "an absolute oversight."Goldberg was featured in a Best Supporting Actress Oscar montage when she won the award for "Ghost" in 1990. But no footage from her her hosting gigs in 1994, 1996, 1999 and 2002 made the retrospective clip. The 52-year-old actress-comedian was near tears talking about it on "The View" Monday morning, and her co-hosts reacted strongly to the snub.Cates said that "no harm was intended" and he feels "very, very badly" about what happened. But he also pointed out that Steve Martin didn't make the montage, either. In response to the apology, Goldberg called Cates a "great gentleman" and accepted his apology.
