Rangers Agree To Terms With Higgins

POSTED: 2:29 pm EDT July 6, 2009

(Sports Network) - The New York Rangers and restricted free agent forward Christopher Higgins agreed to terms on a contract Monday. Terms of the pact were not disclosed.

Higgins was acquired along with Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko from the Montreal Canadiens, in exchange for Scott Gomez, Tom Pyatt and Mike Busto on June 30.

The Smithtown, New York native set career-highs in goals (27), assists (25) and points (52) in 82 games during the 2007-08 season while a member of the Canadiens. He had 12 goals and 23 points while skating in just 57 games last year.

The 26-year-old Higgins has surpassed the 20-goal mark three times and has 84 to pair with 67 assists for 151 points over 282 career contests for Montreal. The Habs used the 14th overall pick in the 2002 draft to select the five-year veteran.
