Ducks And Sharks Meet Again
(Sports Network) - The Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks will meet for the third time in six days tonight, when the two clubs battle at HP Pavilion. The clubs engaged in a home-and-home battle last Sunday and Tuesday, splitting the two contests. San Jose won 2-1 in a shootout in Anaheim before the Ducks countered with a 2-0 road win. Anaheim is 3-0-1 in four tilts against the Sharks this season and has taken seven of the last 10 encounters overall. The Ducks have also won five in a row at the Shark Tank. Since winning in San Jose, the Ducks returned home to battle the Colorado Avalanche and posted a 2-1 overtime win on Wednesday. Mathieu Schneider netted the game-winner in overtime to lift Anaheim. Avalanche defenseman Kyle Cumiskey got caught in the offensive zone, allowing the Ducks to create an odd-man rush. Chris Kunitz fed the puck to Schneider streaking down the right wing, and he unleashed a perfect shot into the top corner over the glove of Peter Budaj with 1:29 remaining in the extra session. Chris Pronger also scored for Anaheim, which has reeled off two straight wins following a three-game slide. Jonas Hiller allowed one goal on 12 shots to earn the win. Anaheim is 7-9-1 on the road this year and begin a four-game road swing tonight. San Jose, meanwhile, played the second game of a three-game homestand on Thursday. However, the Sharks were dealt a 3-2 defeat by Phoenix in a shootout. Peter Mueller had the lone goal in the shootout for the Coyotes. The first skater for the Coyotes, Mueller scored on a wrist shot that beat Sharks netminder Evgeni Nabokov through the five-hole. Ilya Bryzgalov then stymied all three San Jose players at the other end, helping Phoenix snap an eight- game skid against the Sharks. Torrey Mitchell and Jeremy Roenick lit the lamp for San Jose, which has dropped three of four. Nabokov turned aside 35 shots, and had a 271 minute, 20 second scoreless streak come to an end against Phoenix. Roenick was returning to the lineup after missing five games with a right knee injury. The Sharks have lost three in a row at home and are 6-8-3 as the host this year. San Jose begins a four-game road trip on Wednesday versus Los Angeles.
