Steelers Sign Another Draft Pick

Pittsburgh Also Releases 6 Players

UPDATED: 6:03 pm EDT June 29, 2009

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed another draft pick Monday, leaving No. 1 pick Evander "Ziggy" Hood as the only unsigned member of their 2009 draft class.

Offensive lineman Kraig Urbik, a third-round pick from Wisconsin-Madison, signed a three-year contract with the Steelers. Terms were not released.

At 6-foot-5 and 328 pounds, Urbik was the first of the Steelers' three picks in the third round of the draft.

Hood, a defensive lineman from Missouri, was the Steelers' first pick at No. 32 overall. The team has not given any indication how far apart the sides are in their negotiations.

All other draft picks are signed and ready to report to training camp on July 31. They are:

  • Mississippi wide receiver Mike Wallace (third round)
  • Oregon State cornerback Keenan Lewis (third round)
  • Central Florida cornerback Joe Burnett (fifth round)
  • UNLV running back Frank Summers (fifth round)
  • Oregon defensive end Ra'Shon Harris (sixth round)
  • Arkansas State wide receiver David Johnson (seventh round)
  • Penn State center A.Q. Shipley (seventh round)

The Steelers also said that they released six free agents -- quarterback Kevin McCabe (California University of Pennsylvania), long snapper Mark Estermyer (Pitt), defensive end Jeff Bradley, wide receiver Jayson Foster, wide receiver Cedric Goodman and fullback Ryan Powdrell.
