Former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jay Riemersma has designs on a Congressional seat in his home state of Michigan.

The Grand Rapids Press reports Wednesday that Riemersma has filed paperwork to run for U.S. Rep. Peter Hoekstra's 2nd District seat in southwestern Michigan.

Riemersma, a Republican, played football about 20 miles southwest of Grand Rapids at Zeeland High School before moving on to the University of Michigan.

He played for the Steelers from 2003 to 2004 and retired after tearing an Achilles tendon.
