PITTSBURGH -- Drug charges against Pittsburgh Steelers receiver and Super Bowl XLIII MVP Santonio Homes were dropped on Wednesday.Holmes was facing a misdemeanor marijuana charge stemming from a traffic stop last year.Police said they found three marijuana-filled cigars in Holmes' car when they pulled him over on Oct. 23 near Mellon Arena.Channel 4 Action News' Amber Nicotra reported Holmes' attorney, Robert Del Greco, challenged the constitutionality of the stop."We're glad we were able to convince the Commonwealth to essentially dismiss the case without the need for a hearing. So we're delighted," Del Greco said.Acting on an anonymous tip, officers were given a broad description of an SUV and told to be on the lookout for it. Del Greco argued the tip was not specific enough and because it was anonymous, it violated his client's constitutional rights."The tip was anonymous, and the quality of the information in the anonymous tip was such that it was not specific enough to justify a search, and that's how we felt all along," Del Greco said.Prosecutors agreed, dismissing the case after meeting several times with Del Greco, who said he wasn't really surprised by the outcome."It's not unprecedented that we reach the same conclusions, but in this instance, I think it was pretty clear that the case law was in our favor and I think they did the right thing," Del Greco said.Holmes made a brief comment after the decision, saying he's glad it's over, Nicotra reported.Holmes was suspended for one game after his arrest.
