PITTSBURGH -- When you think about Pittsburgh Steelers free safety Troy Polamalu, chances are you visualize his long hair, but if the NFL decides to change its rules, that could all change.

The NFL is considering forcing all of its players to do something about their hair. It would prohibit long hair from covering a player's last name on the back of their jersey.Polamalu, who has been tackled at least once by his hair, has said numerous times that his last haircut was in 2002 when he was attending Southern Cal University, but if the new rule goes into effect, he could be getting a new do soon.Discussion of the rule began on Monday. There is no word on when a final vote will be.In July 2007, Polamalu agreed to a four-year contract extension. The Steelers have not released financial details, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the deal was worth $33 million, including signing and roster bonuses of about $15.3 million.Those numbers would also make Polamalu the highest-paid player at his position in the NFL.The contract extension locks up the three-time Pro Bowler through 2011.
