Steelers Sign Center Justin Hartwig

UPDATED: 9:29 am EDT March 19, 2008

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed free agent center Justin Hartwig to help bolster their offensive line.

The deal is for two years and is worth $3.7 million.

The signing means last year's starting center, Sean Mahan, could move back to guard and replace Alan Faneca, who signed with the New York Jets.

Hartwig, 29, started 15 games at center for Carolina last season. The Panthers released him on March 11.

He was drafted by Tennessee in the sixth round in 2002.
