Giants Give LT Diehl New Contract

POSTED: 5:38 pm EDT May 6, 2008

(Sports Network) - The New York Giants signed left tackle David Diehl to a new six-year contract, keeping him with the team through the 2013 season, according to a report from The Newark Star-Ledger on Tuesday.

Diehl was to enter into the third year of a six-year deal this season after signing a $15.5 million extension in 2005. Diehl previously played left guard before Luke Petitgout was released prior to the start of last season.

Team officials have yet to release financial terms of the deal, reportedly finalized prior to the NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-5, 319-pound lineman was drafted by the Giants in the fifth round of the 2003 draft out of Illinois. Diehl has started every regular season game for New York, a streak of 80 consecutive starts, including six postseason contests since joining the team.
