Texans' WR Johnson Gets Knee Scoped

POSTED: 5:03 pm EDT May 19, 2008

(Sports Network) - Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson will miss the remainder of the team's offseason workouts after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery last Thursday.

Johnson missed seven weeks last season after suffering a sprained left knee in Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers. He returned in Week 11 and averaged 84.1 yards in his final seven contests, finishing his injury-shortened campaign with 60 catches for a team-high 851 yards and eight touchdowns.

The 26-yeard old Miami product aggravated the injury two weeks ago during offseason mini-camp, and the team didn't want to take any chances with its star wide out.

"He wasn't really comfortable coming out of (mini-)camp, so we said, 'Hey, let's go scope it and see if there are any issues,'" Texans coach Gary Kubiak told the team's Web site.

Johnson should be ready for training camp at the end of July.

"I feel good right now," said the two-time Pro Bowler. "The knee didn't swell up or anything. It has a little bit of swelling, but nothing major. If you looked at my knee, you wouldn't really even be able to tell anything is wrong with it. Other than that, I am feeling fine, just rehabbing every day, doing what I need to do to get back on the field."
