Raiders Acquire Mike Williams From Lions

POSTED: 9:53 pm EDT April 28, 2007

(Sports Network) - On the day they selected quarterback JaMarcus Russell first in the NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders made a couple more moves to bolster their offense, acquiring wide receiver Mike Williams and QB Josh McCown from the Detroit Lions.

The Raiders dealt the fourth-round pick (105th overall) they acquired from the Arizona Cardinals for the two players.

Williams, a first round draft choice of the Lions in 2005, played in 22 games with six starts with the Lions and caught 37 passes for 449 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The move reunites Williams with Raiders coach Lane Kiffin, who was the wide receiver's coach at Southern California.

Williams joins a glut of wide receivers for the Raiders, who already have Randy Moss, Jerry Porter and Ronald Curry. However, rumors persist that the Raiders are trying to deal Moss.

McCown was with the Lions last year after spending the first four years of his NFL career with Arizona. He has started in 22 of the 35 games he's played in and has thrown for 5,431 yards with 25 touchdowns and 29 interceptions.

The trade also means the Lions likely will keep the No. 2 overall draft pick, wide receiver Calvin Johnson out of Georgia Tech.
