Same-sex marriage isn't recognized by the Presbyterian Church or Pennsylvania law -- but that didn't stop one local minister.

Janet Edwards, a parish associate at the Community of Reconciliation Church in Pittsburgh, will face charges filed by the presbytery after she conducted a marriage ceremony between two women at a McKees Rocks church last year.

Edwards said she was just following God's intentions for her, and she plans to plead not guilty at her pre-trial hearing.

"Scripture tells me that the essential element of marriage is the love and commitment between the two partners," she said.

"I'm 66 years old and it was the absolute happiest day of my life," said Nancy McConn, who took part in the ceremony. "Getting married, it was indescribable. It was absolutely awesome."

If found guilty, Edwards said she could be rebuked or removed from the ministry.
