Philadelphia Sheriff’s Department Rides To RememberRide Ensures Flight 93 Won’t Be ForgottenPOSTED: 10:54 pm EDT September 9,
2006 PITTSBURGH -- They came on motorcycles from Philadelphia to visit the flight 93 crash site.Law enforcement officers are hoping to make a difference and to make sure the memory of 40 lives lost that day will live on."Decided we had to do something to make this day a day the country would never forget," said Philadelphia County Deputy Sheriff John Hamilton.Hamilton led the ride across the state. It's a trip they plan on making every year to help raise money for the flight 93 memorial."So this is our way of giving back to those 40 people and their loved ones, so that one day they can come out here and see this memorial that all this work and dedication built and people in this country will never forget what happened," said Hamilton.“This means quite a bit. It just shows you how people come together when something like this has occurred," said Philadelphia County Sheriff Carl Brown."I think that is absolutely fabulous. They are just a tribute to our country and to everybody else that’s here today," said Diana Alexiou.Hamilton said members of law enforcement take an oath to protect the people. He said those on flight 93 took no such oath, but did ultimately protect potentially thousands by their actions."Those 40 people are truly heroes. When you're in law enforcement you see things like this every day and you become numb to it,” Hamilton said. “But when you see civilians get together on a plane, knowing that they are ultimately going to die, and do what they did for their fellow man, it's priceless," Copyright 2006 by ThePittsburghChannel.
