More O'Connor Wristbands On Sale

UPDATED: 9:25 am EDT September 8, 2006

Inspired by Mayor Bob O'Connor's battle with cancer, a Pittsburgh paramedic came up with a way for people to keep the mayor in their thoughts.

Black rubber wristbands with "Everybody's Mayor ... Bob O'Connor" written in gold are on sale downtown for $2 each. Proceeds benefit the local chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The wristbands are being sold on Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the City-County Building and from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. in Market Square.

Bracelets may also be purchased by mail. Click here to print a PDF order form or call (412) 395-2873.

Paramedic Antwain Carter said he came up with the idea for the wristbands a few weeks ago.

He gave some bracelets to O'Connor's wife, Judy, and when she was seen wearing one on television, people began asking if they could buy the bands.
