Police Officer Caught Sleeping On The Job

A police officer who was supposed to be helping control traffic was caught taking a nap in his car instead.

A home video was taken last Monday near the Homestead Grays Bridge.

Although the lights of the patrol car were running, the video captured the officer inside the car asleep.

The police officer should have been helping to control traffic for the bridge construction project, which had caused the streets to be frequently clogged in recent weeks.

West Homestead Chief Christopher Deasy said the officer had just worked a double shift before starting the off-duty traffic detail.

The officer’s car was sitting near the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Hays Street.

“The police officer was just a little run-down,” Deasy said. “Other than that, this officer is a fine officer for us.”

Deasy gave the officer a written reprimand after seeing the photos.

The officer was also ordered not to do any off-duty work for thirty days.

Deasy did not name the officer but said this is his first disciplinary problem since he has been on the West Homestead force.

The chief also said he has never seen or heard of another case of cops sleeping on the job in the 20 years he has been a police officer.
