The news hit Latrobe hard last week: Anheuser-Busch is buying the Rolling Rock beer recipe and brand name, but not the local plant.

Now, supporters of the Latrobe Brewing Co. are rallying to save their plant, which is the city's largest taxpayer.

Channel 4 Action News reporter Jennifer Miele said the event started at about noon Tuesday at Dino's Sports Lounge on Route 30.

According to Latrobe Brewing, another buyer has until July 31 to come forward. Otherwise, the plant will shut down and more than 200 people will lose their jobs.

A group called the Coalition of Concerned Citizens of the Greater Latrobe Area has four steps they're taking to achieve a singular goal -- to keep Rolling Rock in Latrobe.

The action plan includes:
  • A community petition
  • Total boycott of Anheuser-Busch products
  • Open an account at Commercial Bank called SOB -- "Save Our Brewery"
  • ing letters asking for support

Last week, Gov. Ed Rendell said InBev USA -- the company that sold the Rolling Rock name -- had seen some interest in the brewery from other companies. At the time, Rendell said meetings with those unidentified companies could happen this week.
