Hikers Warned About Meth Labs At State Parks

POSTED: 11:40 am EDT May 12, 2006

Hikers beware: State police want you to be on the lookout for methamphetamine labs.

Two labs have been discovered on state lands, including Kooser State Park in Somerset County.

At one park, hikers found three bottles of drain cleaner, an empty gas can and a container with ammonia residue, police said.

The chemicals used to make meth are toxic, and the labs can be explosive, police said.

Special teams cleaned up the chemicals left behind at both state lands.
