There was a gas war in Westmoreland County on Tuesday, but it didn't last long.

Two gas stations dropped prices dramatically to compete with each other.

It happened at the BP and the Glass Mart on Route 30 in Latrobe. Those gas stations are the only two for a long stretch on Route 30.

The BP station lowered its prices first, as part of a 30-day promotion for a new credit card. Not to be outdone, the Glass Mart dropped its prices too. Eventually, they were both selling regular unleaded for $2.36 a gallon.

Cars began lining up to take advantage, causing a traffic jam that included one minor accident. State police then asked the stations to end the price war, and both agreed and raised their prices.
