Raceway Plaza
A gas leak forced the evacuation of some businesses at the Raceway Plaza Shopping Center on Washington Pike on Tuesday morning.

The leak began about 9:45 a.m. when a contractor hit a gas line, Channel 4 Action News reporter Bob Mayo said.

Mayo said a third-party contractor was digging in an area behind Wal-Mart when they hit the gas line.

Employees in the break room heard hissing, and then there was an evacuation, Mayo said.

The leak was shut off at 11 a.m.

Buildings were reopened as readings were done to confirm there was no presence of natural gas.

No one was sickened, nor was anyone injured.
