10-Year-Old Protests School Miniskirt BanPOSTED: 8:22 am EDT April 6,
2006 UPPER SAINT CLAIR, Pa. -- A fourth-grader is protesting a rule by her school principal that bans the kinds of miniskirts she likes to wear.Zoe Hinkle, 10, and her mother, Leslie, say there's nothing wrong with the skirt. It has shorts sewn into it underneath, Leslie says. But Zoe says Claire Miller, the principal at Streams Elementary School in Upper Saint Clair, has told her and other girls that skirts which rise to mid-thigh level are too short.Administrators say they weren't aware that any of the girls or their parents were upset with the principal's interpretation of the dress code. The dress code says school officials may impose limits only on clothes that disrupt the educational process or cause a safety hazard. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that Zoe is planning to hold a rally with other students at the school on Friday.
