Stylist Who Allegedly Concealed Girl's Identity Surrenders

24-Year-Old Resurfaces After Missing For 10 Years

About 2:30 p.m. on Monday, the search for a hairdresser who police said helped to conceal a teenager for 10 years ended when the woman surrendered at District Judge Robert Barner's office in North Versailles.

Allegheny County detectives had been looking for Judy Sokol since they issued a warrant for her arrest on Friday.

Sokol, of Duquesne, is charged with one count each of statutory sexual assault, indecent assault, endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors and three counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

Police said that Sokol did not participate in sexual acts with Tanya Kach, but knew about the sexual encounters between Kach and Thomas Hose and facilitated them.

She is being held in the Allegheny County Jail on $10,000 straight bond.

In the meantime, Kach, 24, had a reunion with her mother on Friday. Kach was 14 when she disappeared in McKeesport in 1996.

A security guard at Kach's middle school was charged with hiding her for 10 years in his home.

According to police, Hose, 48, allegedly brainwashed Kach and kept her hidden in his house.

Hose remained in Allegheny County Jail after a bond hearing on Monday morning in which an Allegheny County judge increased the bond from $2,000 to $10,000 straight cash.

He is charged with statutory sexual assault and three counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

There are concerns at Cornell Middle School, where Kach attended 10 years ago and where she met Thomas Hose.

Hose was working at the school until the case broke last week.

The school has three psychologists and a guidance counselor on hand talking to kids and staff about what happened.

They are dealing with kids, parents and teachers.

Channel 4 Action News was told students are taking advantage of the counseling services.

Cornell sent a letter home to parents explaining the situation and the school is working on setting up a meeting for parents and school officials.

On Monday afternoon, Channel 4 Action News spoke with the attorney for the Kach family.

Lawrence Fisher read the following statement from the family:

"We have every confidence that justice will prevail to expose Mr. Hose for the predator and pedophile we believe him to be."

Fisher went on to say the family is focused on healing and justice.
