WTAE-TV reported that a large pile of mulch went ablaze Saturday afternoon, sparking a big fire alongside Interstate 70.

Between 75 and 85 fire crews from six fire companies spent most of the afternoon battling the smoky fire.

Smoke could be seen from miles away and made it difficult for motorists on the nearby road to see, WTAE-TV reported.

The fire, which broke out at about 1:30 p.m., appeared to be under control late Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
