A 13-year-old boy from Mount Lebanon may have died from the "choking game."

According to officials, it's a deadly national trend where children deprive their brains of oxygen to get a quick high.

Police investigating the asphyxiation by hanging death Monday won't say if they suspect the game was involved, but the boy's father told Channel 4 Action News he believes there's no question that's what his son died from.

He said his son was happy and called him a victim of the game, which officials say kids mistakenly believe can give them a buzz without the danger of drugs. Medical experts say that's a deadly mistake.

Officials say children taking part in choking games may regularly have:
  • Red eyes
  • Severe headaches
  • Unusual marks or bruising on the neck
