There's another Steeler that has come from behind and won when nobody thought he could, reported WTAE-TV's Jon Greiner.

At The Meadows in Washington, Pa., a 4-year-old harness horse named Steeler has overcome tremendous odds to continue his career.

Two months ago, Steeler and three stable mates were in a fiery crash on Interstate 78 near Allentown, Pa., when their van was hit by a tractor-trailer.

The horses were running along the road when they were found, lucky to be alive.

"He had a deep gash," said Sally Bolon, the wife of Steeler's trainer. "His head was really swollen because of the trauma from the accident. Other than that, he had a few scrapes on his legs and he basically got out of the accident really well."

Steeler's story has coincided with Pittsburgh's football team success and has been picked up by various media outlets across the country.

Bolon is uncertain where Steeler got his name, but his owner is from Johnstown, Pa., and is a likely Steelers fan.

Like the Steelers, Steeler is said to be a blue-collar type of horse.

"He definitely has a big heart," said Bolon. "I think he always has. He gives 110 percent every time he's out there on the racetrack. So whether he wins or loses, you always know he's trying hard."

While the Steelers have to wait 10 days to play their next game, Steeler will be racing at the Meadowlands in New Jersey before going on the road again Friday night.
