Sony Cutting Jobs In Westmoreland County

POSTED: 5:44 pm EST January 20, 2006

Sony is planning to close the glassmaking facility at its Sony Technology Center in May, eliminating 300 jobs.

The move is part of an ongoing restructuring of the company's television operations.

The electronics giant is looking to replace older cathode-ray tube sets with digital models that are in higher demand.

After the cuts are made, the plant will employ approximately 1,900 people.
