Judge Orders Taylor Back To JailAccused Wilkinsburg Shooter Has Been In HospitalUPDATED: 6:07 p.m. EDT April 9, 2001 Accused Wilkinsburg shooter Ronald Taylor will be returned to the Allegheny County jail.
The prosecution considers the decision a victory. Taylor's attorneys, however, believe that Taylor should remain in Mayview State Hospital.
"I'm concerned that he would not be forced to take his medications in jail," said Taylor attorney Lisa Middleman. "I'm concerned he would revert back into the private hell where he has been for the last 10 years of his life."
"Ronald Taylor's mentally in the best shape he's been in in 15, 20, 25 years," said Taylor attorney John Elash.
Taylor's attorneys attribute the turnaround to Mayview. But the district attorney said that turnaround is why Taylor should be returned to the county jail.
Deputy District Attorney Ed Borkowski said in court that a report from a Mayview doctor stated that Taylor's condition has stabilized.
The report also said that althought Taylor was taking his medication, he has been uncooperative and refused to talk to doctors since August and has been hostile toward the staff. He also was in a fight with another patient.
Taylor's attorneys believe that the report's poor prognosis is more proof why he should stay in Mayview.
No date has been set for when Taylor will be transferred from Mayview to jail.
The district attorney also filed a motion for a gag order. The judge has not made a ruling.
