Microsoft's highly anticipated new gaming system went on sale Tuesday, but it didn't last long.

About a dozen people hoping to buy the Xbox 360 video game console were waiting outside Target in Monroeville at 7 a.m. -- one hour before the store was scheduled to open.

Most of them scattered when they saw WTAE Channel 4 Action News cameras, saying they were supposed to be at work.

How high is the demand? Signs are already posted at the front door, informing potential customers that "We are currently sold out of the Xbox 360 system."

It's primarily a video game machine, but the new Xbox is more powerful than previous versions. It has multimedia capability, giving gamers and non-gamers alike the ability to integrate their entertainment and information through the television, stereo and computer.

Xbox's top competitors, the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Revolution, are expected to go on sale in the U.S. early next year.
