A Pittsburgh narcotics detective was hurt in an apparent hit-and-run traffic accident Friday morning, police said.

The crash happened at the intersection of North St. Clair and Bunkerhill streets in Highland Park at about 11 a.m., police said. The detective's unmarked Oldsmobile Alero and a silver Ford Explorer were involved, along with two other cars.

The detective was complaining of neck and shoulder pain after the crash. Police said he is in good condition at Allegheny General Hospital.

Police said the detective was following the Explorer in an area known for drug sales. The driver apparently realized that he was being tailed, so he backed up and hit the car. He then smashed into another car at a stop sign and a parked car before fleeing, police said.

Police are looking for the Explorer driver. He is described as a black man, about 30 years old, with a thin build and a mustache.
