Construction Worker's Strange Death Probed In Lawrenceville

A man who was reportedly behaving strangely on a construction site in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh died after being subdued Tuesday morning, Channel 4's Sheldon Ingram reported.

A supervisor at the site, near the intersection of Butler and 36th streets, told Ingram that the man was speaking incoherently, refusing to put on a shirt and accusing him of being a police officer. Soon, he began running in and out of traffic.

City police said an off-duty Blawnox police officer who was in the area tried to calm the man down. The officer was unsuccessful, so he and other bystanders grabbed the man and held him down, police said.

During the struggle, the man became unresponsive, police said. He later died at Allegheny General Hospital.

Police have identified the man as David Pringle, 43, of Grove City. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.

Pittsburgh homicide detectives are investigating.
