New Supercomputer Debuts In Monroeville

The Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center on Wednesday unveiled Cray Inc.'s XT3, one of the world's most advanced computing systems.

Nicknamed "Big Ben," the XT3 will help scientists and engineers study everything from earthquake prediction to medical imaging that could lead to cures for diseases.

The center is a joint effort of Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh and Westinghouse Electric Co.
