The hero dog that chased a bear away from three children returned home Wednesday night.

Bill Rusko said he and his children were looking in the woods about a mile from their home when Major was located. The children were yelling for Major and the dog came running out of the woods. The Rusko family brought Major home and he ate two bowls of pork chops and drank a lot of water before taking a nap on the living room floor with the children.

Earlier this week, a black bear crossed Route 30 and approached the three children while they were playing badminton. The dog circled the children, to get the bear's attention, and bit the bear at least once on the face before chasing it back into a wooded area.

The dog sustained some injuries and will be taken to a veterinarian.
