A family is looking for its pet boxer, which ran off after protecting children from a black bear at their Westmoreland County cottage.

Bill Rusko said the bear crossed Route 30 in Ligonier Township and went toward his two children and their cousin, who were playing badminton.

Major, the family's 1-year-old dog, ran circles around the children and bit the bear in the face, then chased it into the woods.

The dog is still missing, but neighbors say they have seen it in the area.
