LIHEAP Heating Assistance Program Is Open

Financial Help Available For Low-Income Pennsylvanians

UPDATED: 7:07 pm EST November 3, 2009

Assistance for Pennsylvanians to pay for home heating began on Nov. 2 through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP.

Last winter, about 547,000 families got cash grants from the federally funded program and more than 202,000 families received crisis assistance.

Applicants must provide a recent bill or a statement from their fuel dealer verifying their customer status and the type of fuel that they use, as well as proof of income and the number of people in the household.

Applications will be available at county assistance offices (see full list here), as well as utility companies and community service agencies.

To determine whether you qualify, go to the LIHEAP Web site or call the toll-free hotline at 866-857-7095.
