2004 KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- People in two communities are struggling to cope with the killing of an expectant mother and the snatching of her fetus. In the victim's hometown of Skidmore, members of Bobbie Joe Stinnett's church were grieving Sunday. Her pastor, the Rev. Harold Hamon, said he didn't address Stinnett's death directly in his sermon, but he could tell it was on the parishioners' minds. Meanwhile, in Melvern, Kan., where suspect Lisa Montgomery, 36, lives, the Rev. Mike Wheatly, gave his sermon, written before details of the crime surfaced. It was titled, "A Baby Changed Everything."It was about the baby Jesus, but Wheatley said much of it might apply to Stinnett's child The baby in that case, a girl named Victoria Jo, is hospitalized in good condition.Montgomery is expected to appear in court Monday.Authorities said Montgomery is the mother of two high school-age children, and had recently claimed to be pregnant -- though the outcome of that pregnancy is unclear. They said she admitted lying to her husband about what had happened.Witnesses report Montgomery had shown patrons of a local cafe the baby, then took the child to visit a pastor.Stinett's mother, who called police Thursday afternoon, found her daughter strangled to death inside her home. Paramedics tried to revive Stinnett, but she was later pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Mo.Investigators said it appeared Stinnett was killed no more than an hour before she was found. They said she may have struggled with her killer and that blonde hair was found in Stinnett's hand.Services will be held for Stinnett, who was 23, on Tuesday.
